RISE works closely with the Broncos Boys & Girls Club members to empower and educate them on racial discrimination and championing social justice in the sports community. Denver Broncos free safety Justin Simmons has been actively involved in this organization.
Simmons began working with RISE more than a year ago, first engaging video-conferencing sessions and now acting as a role model and mentor to the boys and girls.
From leading stretches in the beginning of the sessions to participating in mental activities, Simmons shows up every Wednesday to support club members and make them feel more comfortable about opening up and sharing. One camp member shared that "just having him there, having him involved, [just] knowing that he cares" means the world. "I know last year we did it online, but him actually being here every week, every Wednesday, just like the rest of us for an hour and 45 minutes is great. Just to see him come all the way out here is just amazing," the club member continued.
